Camp Jimbelung is a three-day therapeutic day camp for children aged 5-12 on 21 to 23 September 2022 which is led by Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists from Early Start Australia.

The aim of the camp is to provide children with a typical camp experience using activities such as rock-climbing, low ropes courses, scavenger hunts, life on the farm and nature play while providing extra support to work on areas of challenge such as:

• Social interactions
• Managing emotions
• Whole body coordination

The three-day camp has specific programs making sure that experiences, activities, and learning are optimised for age and developmental stages.

Camp Jimbelung is run by Lara and Brian Moes and the team of allied health specialists from Early Start Australia’s Ashmore, Coomera and Springfield clinics. Lara has over 20 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist and Brian is an experienced Outdoor Education Teacher with over 13 years’ experience working in this field of education.

Lara said “this is the fifth year that the camp has been run at the Currumbin Community Farm School and we expect to fill the 40 places for this popular school holiday activity. Children do not need to be receiving therapy at Early Start Australia to attend the camp. All that is required is a short appointment in person or over Zoom to ensure that our camp will be a good fit for your child”.

As this camp is a therapeutic camp run by registered Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists, all attendees are eligible to use funding sources including NDIS, HCWA, Medicare CDM Team Care Plans.

“It is an exciting time for our Queensland clinics, as our Coomera Clinic is moving next month to a brand-new purpose-built facility with 10 therapy spaces for our Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. The demand for our early intervention services is growing in the Gold Coast and we can now expand our team and premises to service this increased need”, Lara said.
