Early Start Australia | QLD | Springfield (formerly Grow On Children’s Therapy) has been providing Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Pathology services to the Springfield and Ipswich region since 2017. Our services are provided to children and adolescents (birth to 18 years) and are delivered in our therapy centre, or mobile, visiting childcare, pre-school, school or home settings. Our therapists are also trained and equipped to provide services via Telehealth.
Our team are committed to helping develop children and adolescent’s life skills to enable them to participate in daily activities to the best of their ability and achieve their goals. We have a strong early intervention program incorporating use of the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) for intensive early intervention with children aged 12 to 48 months. ESDM integrates a relationship-focused play -based, skill attainment-focused developmental model to provide an effective program for young children and their families.

Meet Our Principal
Carissa Bernal Carrillo Carissa graduated from James Cook University in 2007. During her studies, she worked privately for a family with a child with Autism and has also worked in residential care for at risk boys aged six-18 years with Churches of Christ Care, with a focus on daily routines, social interaction and skill development.
Carissa worked for Queensland Health for seven years after graduation and her experience included working in developmental, neurological and physical impairment paediatrics, including working in the Cerebral Palsy Health role where she was responsible for their ongoing management.
This included liaising with specialist teams in Brisbane after interventions such as Botulinum Toxin Injections for casting, therapy and aids/equipment prescriptions. During this time Carissa also worked in the ADOS team for early identification and assessment of children with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Since relocating to Brisbane, Carissa has worked in a community paediatrics team and in a hospital setting in senior OT and team leader roles, gaining ongoing experience in neurological and physical impairments.
Carissa also holds a Masters Degree in Neurological Occupational Therapy and has completed her Early Start Denver Model for Early Intervention training.
Carissa enjoys working with children and their families to identify their goals and assist their child with reaching their full potential in a fun and supported environment.
