Our Services

Many people think of occupation as their “job” or their primary source of income, however occupation is much more than that… An occupation is anything with “occupies” your time, and there are many ‘jobs’ we all need to do through the day.

A child’s occupations typically include:

  • self-care activities (dressing, eating, toileting, sleeping)
  • play and social interactions (peers, family and community)
  • learning (school, childcare, play-group, with parents, alone or with peers)

Where a child may be having difficulty with one or more of these roles, and Occupational Therapist looks at the skills needed to complete each task, and the areas which may be challenging.

At Early Start Australia, we focus on the foundations of ‘being’. Our sensory system is what makes each of us perfectly unique. It forms the basis for everything we do throughout the day, how calm or alert we feel, what we like or don’t like, protects us from pain and brings immense pleasure. It influences our ability to plan and be organized, concentrate, to move our bodies and to learn. It is the basis for learning, play, social skills, school work, using our hands, sports, toileting, dressing, eating and everything else we choose to do throughout the day.

Many children we see do not have a diagnosis. They may have a single area or difficulty, or be showing difficulties across a range of skill areas. Other children have a diagnosis, such as an Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Delays, ADHD or a learning disorder. We also see children with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and range of other conditions.

There is no criteria at Early Start Australia. We believe every child deserves support, encouragement, the chance to show their true potential, and a life filled with joy and laughter.

Early Start Denver Model

The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is a comprehensive, evidence-based, behavioural early intervention program for children with Autism.

Developed by a trained multi-disciplinary team at the MIND Institute, ESDM integrates a relationship-focused developmental model with the well-validated practices of Applied Behaviour Analysis to provide an effective program for young children and their families.

Early Start Australia is currently delivering some ESDM services as we progress with the certification process.

Please note, this training is being supervised by a certified ESDM trainer.
