Hydrotherapy is a great way to provide a fun and engaging form of physiotherapy; making use of the natural buoyancy, heat and resistance of water to help develop new movement skills and strength. Your child does not need to be able to swim and the sessions are always one on one, ensuring your child’s safety.
Hydrotherapy can be used to treat musculoskeletal, neurological and respiratory conditions.
Some of the common paediatric goals that work well in hydrotherapy are:
- muscle strength
- core stability
- range of movement
Hydrotherapy programs also complement land-based physiotherapy for children and young people with cerebral palsy, particularly for those with significant movement limitations where land-based physical activity is difficult.
