Orofacial myofunctional disorders may interfere with normal growth and development of the muscles and bones of the face and mouth. They may also interfere with how the muscles of the face and mouth are used for talking, eating, swallowing and breathing through the nose. Children and young adults displaying these issues can be taught techniques and alternative movements and postural patterns to address these problems.
