Tailored support for your child’s milestone

Toilet training is an important milestone, but it’s not always easy. At Early Start Australia, we recognise some children’s unique challenges and provide compassionate, tailored support for families and caregivers. Using evidence-based methods, we create strategies to guide children toward independence while easing the journey for parents and carers.

Prolonged struggles with toilet training can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to face them alone. No matter the issue, our experienced therapists work alongside you to offer practical, achievable solutions that make a real difference.

A caring approach to toilet training challenges

Toilet training can be a daunting experience, especially when challenges arise. Our program is here to support parents, caregivers and children facing difficulties such as delays, resistance, or health concerns like constipation or night-time wetting. We provide families with personalised strategies and support to address common issues, including:

  • Fear or anxiety about using the toilet.
  • Struggles transitioning away from nappies.
  • Night-time wetting beyond the age of five.
  • Withholding behaviours causing discomfort or health issues.

Our team of experienced professionals works closely with families to understand each child’s unique needs. By collaborating with parents and caregivers, we develop tailored strategies that build confidence and make progress feel achievable.

When you join our program, you can expect empathetic guidance, practical tools, and personalised support. We’re here to make toilet training a manageable and positive milestone for your child and your family.

Toilet training typically begins between 18 months and three years, but every child is unique. It’s important to look for readiness signs like showing interest in the toilet, staying dry for longer, or following simple instructions. Remember, it’s okay to wait until your child feels ready.

Accidents are a natural step in learning. Respond calmly, reassure your child it’s okay, and encourage them to keep trying. Gentle reminders and positive reinforcement go a long way in building their confidence.

Readiness can look different for each child, but common signs include staying dry for a couple of hours, showing awareness of needing the toilet (such as squatting or vocalising), or expressing interest in wearing underwear. If you’re unsure, we’re here to help guide you.

Focus on daytime training first, and let night-time training follow naturally. Once they’re consistently dry during the day, you can try transitioning out of night nappies, perhaps starting with waterproof bedding and frequent bathroom trips before bed.

You’re not alone. Many families face challenges with toilet training. Seeking professional support can provide fresh perspectives and actionable strategies. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
