Tristan Abba has had a 14-year career practicing as a community mental health worker, substance abuse counsellor, and psychologist in a myriad of agencies working with young people, families and adults. He returned to Perth recently after many years away, having left his busy private practice on the Gold Coast.

Tristan completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Western Australia and Curtin University of Technology. Soon after, he was offered a place in the esteemed Master of Psychology (Counselling) program at Curtin which developed his keen interest in working with people with diverse psychological needs in an adaptive style. He is a Registered Psychologist and an Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency approved supervisor to psychologists developing their skills. Since graduating, Tristan has undertaken formal studies in several modalities of therapy beyond Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) including Mindfulness and trauma-informed modalities, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) to support his clients to identify and change unhelpful patterns of behaviour.  These approaches are each uniquely recognised to help people improve their quality of life and create lasting change.

The West Leederville ESA team prides itself on offering a space where all members of the family can work together to improve emotional wellbeing and develop a strong sense of self. Tristan enjoys leading a diverse and dedicated team of highly qualified psychologists who work hard to deliver services with integrity and compassion. Practicing alongside Tristan currently are Clinical Psychologists Dr. Jenny Sandilands and Nina Casella, Counselling Psychologist Registrar Anna James, and Psychologists Dr. Davinia Shannahan, Hayley Quekett, Kimberley Sandford and Amanda Albury.
